TWINKLE DAMMIT!
DOCUMENTARY FEATURE | 70 MINUTES
In 1971, Margaret Leng Tan became the first woman to earn a doctorate from the Juilliard School. Over the decades that followed, she built a singular place in the world of contemporary music, expanding the possibilities of performance through her fearless imagination, precision, and unmistakable artistic voice, while also becoming internationally recognized as the world’s leading toy piano virtuoso. TWINKLE DAMMIT! centers on her collaboration with composer George Crumb around Metamorphoses, Book I, a work created for her and brought to life through a deeply personal creative exchange.
With intimate access to their working process, the film observes not only the shaping of a major musical work, but also the rare connection between two artists whose shared sensitivity, rigor, and curiosity drive every decision. Beyond the rehearsal room, it reveals the private textures of Margaret’s life. Drawing from personal archives and the unfolding creation of Metamorphoses, Book I, TWINKLE DAMMIT! becomes both a portrait of an extraordinary artist and a vivid record of artistic creation at its most delicate, demanding, and alive.
TWINKLE DAMMIT! has been officially selected by over 20 international film festivals and spotlighted by major cultural institutions including the Kennedy Center, Singapore’s Esplanade Theatre, China’s National Centre for the Performing Arts,, among many others around the world.
The film was screened in over 300 cinemas across China, acquired by 10+ international airlines, 15+ museums and galleries, and global distributors alike.
